Previously a hairdresser's this single room cider house occupies part of what used to be the Dolphin Hotel, the pub of the same name now only forming about a third of the original building. There is a bar counter in the corner with a very small cellar holding, amongst other things, three boxed ciders from Rawlings, Lilley's and The Somerset Cider Company. A fourth boxed cider, The General, shares a tall fridge with several bottled ciders and beers. Keg was also on offer - Guinness, Salcombe Pale ale Lilley's fruit cider and Devon Red. The young barman was friendly enough though more interested in chatting to his mates than his customers, although the pub dog, a very chilled labrador, was more sociable. It has the look and feel of a micro although there's no cask ale. The bar is a single small room, real cider is straight from the barrel, there are a couple of tables made from large barrels and there are no electronic distractions. One of the better pubs in Chard, and I'd be happy to come back.
